I like reggie drums and odd fills but its easy to get off the drop if you stop counting but its hard to count and make really odd fills. Maybe one can learn to sing the fills?

Hi!
I have found that this exersize has helped me to keep track of the basic time and to nail where the beat 1 is in complexed fills.
When you practice, sing or hum the basic qurter note pulse, in any word that feels comfortable La-La-La-La as an example. Then start to play some simple basic beats over your humming quarter note puls, never stop hum or sing the basic pulse that alway has to be in time. Practice it with a metronome, your humming shall be tight an right on the money. Then after some training, step up the level of complexity in your fills but never be sloppy with your sining.
This will build and improve your "inner" time clock and it makes is easier to come out right in time after an advanced fill. After a while you can feel instantly where the beat 1 is when your playing and you dont have
to think so much about it.
